Where Sockensteins get their names
People always ask me how I name each Sockenstein. Really, there is no formula. More often than not, I sit and stare really hard after I finish making them or it’ll come from the person I make it for. But once in a while I receive a little gem of inspiration which is too good to be true…
Having to search far and wide to find an eclectic and colorful variety of socks to work with, I search everywhere and anywhere. Boutiques, high-end stores, fairs, the Internet, and, of course, where all the millionaire bargain-hunters go—Century 21. So don’t be surprised if your Sockenstein is made from a Hugo Boss or Versace sock. On my most recent trip there I was very pleased to find a wide assortment of goodies to return to The Lab with. When I approached the counter to check out, the Checkout Lady took my socks and said, “Ooh, these are some fancy socks, yo’ feet are gonna be stylin’.” After explaining to her what my actual intentions with the socks were, she batted her eyes and said, “Will you gonna make one for me?” While quickly looking around trying to think up a witty reply, I noticed her name tag and said, “How about I name one after you, Passionette?”
